[South Bay News] On October 11, 2026, the 24th "Song-Zhu-Mei" (Pine-Bamboo-Plum) Grand Picnic—organized by the Alliance of Chinese University Alumni Associations of Southern California—was held with great fanfare at the Santa Fe Dam Recreational Area in Irwindale. Co-hosted by the Southern California alumni associations of Peking University, Sun Yat-sen University, Dalian University of Technology, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, the event featured a blend of sports competitions, artistic performances, and recreational activities. It attracted over a thousand alumni and their families, creating a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere.

During the "5th Fitness Group Dance Performance Competition" held that day, ten teams competed on the same stage. The Waist Drum Team of the South Bay Chinese American Association of California (SBCAA) was invited to participate; performing sixth in the lineup, they delivered a stunning rendition of "Munao Zongge," a folk-style waist drum dance choreographed by Instructor Liu Yijun and his team from the American Chinese Cultural Association. Under the meticulous organization and leadership of captains Huang Sui and Gu Yu, the team members performed with high spirits and seamless coordination. The resonant, rhythmic drumming complemented their fluid formations, showcasing rich ethnic flair and an uplifting, energetic spirit. Their performance earned enthusiastic applause from the audience, and they ultimately won the "Best Visual Impact Award."

Louis Chu, President of the South Bay Chinese American Association of California, and Executive President Wang Wei attended the event in person to cheer on the team and assist with organization and logistics, demonstrating the Association's commitment to supporting performing arts groups and community service.

The South Bay Waist Drum Team was established in March 2026, composed of arts enthusiasts passionate about Chinese culture and community service. Despite having been formed only seven months prior, the team stood out in the competition thanks to their rigorous training and spirit of unity. Since its inception, the team has actively participated in cultural and charitable events hosted by various cities and Chinese community organizations across Southern California. Through their ethnic drum performances, they have enriched community life, promoted Chinese culture, and demonstrated the vitality and sense of responsibility characteristic of Chinese performing arts groups. This award not only recognizes the hard work and dedication of the waist-drum team but also highlights the spirit of unity and progress within the Chinese community. The "Pine, Bamboo, and Plum Blossom" Thousand-Person Picnic served as a platform for Southern California university alumni associations, Chinese community groups, and non-profit organizations to connect and collaborate; it fostered friendship, mutual support, and collective strength in the shared mission of serving the community.

Looking ahead, the South Bay Waist-Drum Team remains committed to its mission of public service. Through the rhythm of drums and the art of dance, the team will continue to join hands with various organizations to promote Chinese culture and multicultural exchange, contributing to the creation of a united, friendly, and vibrant community.

【南湾讯】 2026年10月11日，第二十四届南加州高校联盟“松竹梅千人野餐会”在圣塔菲大坝休闲区（Santa Fe Dam Recreational Area, Irwindale）隆重举行。活动由南加州中华高校校友会联盟主办，北京大学、中山大学、大连理工大学、华中科技大学南加州校友会联合承办，集体育竞赛、文艺演出和游园活动于一体，吸引上千名校友及亲友参加，现场气氛热烈。

在当天举行的“2026第五届健身集体舞表演赛”中，10支代表队同台竞技。美国加州南湾华人协会腰鼓队应邀参赛，第六个登场，精彩演绎由美中文化协会刘艺军老师及团队编排的民族风情腰鼓舞《目瑙纵歌》。在黄穗、古瑜两位队长的精心组织和带领下，队员们精神饱满、配合默契，铿锵鼓点与灵动队形交相辉映，展现出浓郁的民族风情与昂扬向上的精神风貌，赢得现场观众热烈掌声，最终荣获“最佳视觉感染奖”。

美国加州南湾华人协会会长 Louis Chu、执行会长王薇亲临现场，为队员们加油助威，并参与组织协调与后勤服务，体现了协会对文艺团队建设及社区公益事业的重视与支持。

南湾腰鼓队成立于2026年3月，由一群热爱中华文化、热心公益的文艺爱好者组成。建队仅七个月，便凭借刻苦训练与团结协作在比赛中脱颖而出。成立以来，团队还积极参与南加州各城市及华人社团举办的文化和公益活动，以民族鼓舞丰富社区生活，传播中华文化，展现了华人文艺团队的活力与担当。

此次获奖不仅是对腰鼓队努力与付出的肯定，也彰显了华人社区团结奋进的精神风貌。“松竹梅千人野餐会”更为南加州高校校友会、华人社团及公益组织搭建了交流合作的平台，促进各界增进友谊、相互支持、凝聚力量，共同服务社区。
